Alterations and Embellishments:
A Three-Part Workshop Series with Robin Teas

Join Milkweed’s professional member Robin Teas for a hands-on, three-week workshop series focused on expanding the expressive potential of wheel-thrown pottery through alteration and assembly. This series is designed for potters who are comfortable on the wheel and ready to push their forms further—transforming familiar shapes into dynamic, intentional vessels.

Each session builds on the last, offering practical techniques and conceptual approaches for rethinking form, function, and construction. We encourage you to sign up for the entire series if possible. Classes are $75 per session or enroll in all three for $200.

Week One: Changing the Architecture Sunday, January 18, 1:00 to 3:30pm

Explore ways to alter wheel-thrown forms by shifting their underlying structure. Using darts and strategic manipulation, we’ll move beyond round pots to create forms with movement, tension, and personality.

Week Two: Adding Spouts and Handles Sunday, January 25, 1:00 to 3:30pm

This session focuses on integrating spouts and handles into wheel-thrown work. Robin will demonstrate methods for making these additions on the wheel and attaching them in ways that feel cohesive, functional, and expressive.

Week Three: The Sum of the Parts Sunday, February 1, 1:00 to 3:30pm

In the final workshop, we’ll break things apart to build something entirely new. Learn techniques for cutting, rearranging, and assembling wheel-thrown components to create complex, unexpected forms that go beyond a single thrown piece.

Whether you take the full series or individual sessions, this workshop offers tools and inspiration for potters looking to expand their vocabulary and approach the wheel with fresh eyes.
